For Recess this week Cory devised a quick and dirty scavenger hunt. Each team member was given a list of 8 items they needed to collect:
1 ) Ruler
2 ) Pink Highlighter
3 ) Scissors
4 ) Nickel
5 ) Coffee bean
6 ) Rock
7 ) Book or magazine with the word “Design” on the cover or spine.
8 ) Mug or Cup with a letter on it
On the word GO everyone in the office took off like a shot (including our two pregnant ladies!) tearing through the office looking for the items. Some of the items couple easily be picked-up right in the production meeting space, while others like the rock or nickel needed a trip out to the car. The hardest item to find was the coffee bean, since all of the coffee in the office is ground, HOWEVER observant FaQtory employees remembered the decorative vase on top of the fridge in the kitchen full of beans.
After a couple near-miss collisions in the stairs (sorry Rick) and 2 ALMOST winners (one was missing the coffee bean, the other a nickel), Melissa was crowned the winner and walked away with the coffee gift card and the bragging rights for the week!
Also interesting to note after five weeks we have yet to have a repeat winner, will week six be the start of a dynasty? Stay tuned!
After a brief hiatus for the 2011 Holiday season, the FaQtory recess came back with a vengeance with a simple but VERY challenging dominoes game devised by our own Gualter Reis.
The activity was simple enough: in a 60 second time limit we were given a pile of dominos and had to make a tower as high as we could. Three people competed in each round, with 2 play-off rounds, and then a winner-take-all finale.
The first round quickly showed what strategies worked and what didn’t. It also started to show us that extra large coffees are not the best idea on Friday before an activity that requires good eye-hand coordination and balance. The clear favorite strategy was christened “The Carolyn Method” as it provided both speedy height and stability, while the “Big Pile of Dominoes Method” Todd tried did not prove as helpful.
After all the dust had cleared, Stephanie the Illustrator from the top floor faced off with Jenn, the soon-to-be mom from the front office. Jenn quickly jumped to a lead using the “Carolyn Method” while Steph decided to work a slow and steady build using 2 stacks side-by-side. Jenn seemed to be a shoe-in to win, but then with 30 seconds left a miss-placed block killed her chances when the whole tower came down, forcing her to start from scratch.
In the end Stephanie was crowed the winner, and will now be extra caffeinated for the next Recess thanks to her Tim Horton’s gift card prize!
Another Friday, another FaQtory Recess!
Greg Fritz, project coordinator at the FaQtory, created today’s recess. The game was simple enough, take a plastic drinking cup placed on the edge of a table, and flip it onto a beer bottle in under a minute. If you got a cup onto the bottle you moved onto the next round.
After the first round, Pierre, Stephanie, Cory and Rick all moved on. Pierre defeated Rick in the semi-finals, and Cory took down Stephanie. In a final that had to be seen to be believed, Pierre landed his cup on the bottle in the first shot… only to have it wobble off and land back on the table. The next shot saw BOTH Pierre and Cory land their cups, with Cory’s now rounding the cup and wobbling off, to the screams and gasps of the crowd!
So week two goes to Pierre “Cups” Lemoine, making the interactive team the guys to beat come next weeks recess!
Check back next week for our next recess post. We are working on something really special for Christmas, and considering it’ll be on our last day of the year we will try REALLY hard to only limit it to fifteen minutes!
