Over the past year the local Winnipeg chapter of the GDC has sponsored a series of PechaKucha nights at the Park Theatre.

PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public, and was soon “open sourced” to allow other groups in other cities to put on their own nights.

PechaKucha is based off of a presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images forward automatically and you talk along to the images. This unique format makes for fast moving presentations, that are not as full of fluff and cut right to the point. Presentations vary on subject matter, and often the most entertaining presentations are from people and groups that would not have an outlet to make a presentation normally.

Our own Karen Niedzwiecki recently presented at PechaKucha with fellow photographer (and FaQtory freelancer) Jeope Wolfe regarding a year-long photography project both had undertaken. Karen and Jeope shared the presentation duties and 1/2 the slides, giving everyone in attendance a run-through of their experiences with a year-long photography project that saw them each taking at least one photo a day.

The next Winnipeg PechaKucha is scheduled for June 9, 2011 and will be held at the Park Theatre on Osborne Street.

Ray Kuik (President), Todd Krostewitz (Creative Director) and Brent Kuik (Account Manager) recently attended GlobalShop 2011 in Las Vegas to meet with The FaQtory's client, Brant Screen Craft.

GlobalShop is the largest store design and at-retail marketing show in the United States. It is the only place where retailers and brand markets can shop over 10,000 products and visit more than 900 suppliers in one location.

Brant is a full-service printer based out of Ontario. They have digital, screen and litho capabilities (all under one roof) and provide innovative and effective print solutions to some of the largest print clients in North America’s retail, restaurant and automotive industries. Their attendance at GlobalShop has helped them land significant new business, and The FaQtory’s booth design attracted attention and received compliments every day of the event. See the creative here!

When you look at your company, products, or services, what do you see? In reality, you see what you want to see: a company who cares, quality, value, trustworthiness, readiness, excellent customer service, engaged employees, and many other positive notes!

But what do your customers see? Is everything as clear to them as it is to you? And what about those whom you want to be your customer? Are they looking through the same lens as you are when it comes to your company?

Maybe it’s time to look with a different lens to see what everyone else sees. Does your picture present what you think it presents? If you have three seconds to impress or connect with someone, can you say with certainty you accomplished that with your marketing communications? Be sure to spend the right time evaluating this aspect of your company and set the stage for steady growth. By allowing your audience to REALLY see what you see, you’ll set yourself a world apart from the other competitive choices they have. You’ll connect and win every time because your audience sees the same thing you do!

And how is this accomplished? Recognize that you are emotionally connected to your company and it’s your job to make that same emotional connection real for your audience. Emotion is the key to connecting with clients and building relationships for the long-term. With the right company, this can be done effectively, emphatically, and emotionally.
